HAPPY HARVEY MILK DAY!
It's not official yet, but we should celebrate it anyway! Today, 22 May, would be the 79th birthday of the United Sates' first openly gay elected official Harvey Milk, who rose up against the odds and was San Fancisco City Supervisor from 8 Janruary 1978 until 21 November 1979, when he (along with San Fancisco Mayor George Mascone) was shot and killed by fellow supervisor Dan White.
Academy Award winner
Sean Penn, who played Harvey in the 2008 Oscar-winning film
Milk (and won the Best Actor Oscar for it), is pushing to have the late politician's birthday be named a day of significance in California; governor
Arnold Schwarzenegger, however, vetoed the bill last year. Let's hope it passes this year!
Though I'm not gay, I have several gay friends, some of my teachers are gay, and I definatly think that you should be able to love whomever you want. If you love someone, you love someone! How can we say the human race is superior if we cannot accept one another? Does a dog care if another dog is gay? No! So why should we?
